Public hearing for shipyard project
PROJECTSTODAY: OFFICIALS of Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation have informed that the public hearing for the proposed shipyard-cum-port complex at Kattupalli will be held on August 21.
L&T Shipbuilding, a joint venture between Larsen & Toubro Ltd and Tidco, is developing the shipyard-cum port complex on 1,200 acres of land. The investment in the project is around Rs 3,086 crore. Ingenieurtechnik and Maschinenbau GmbH of Germany has carried out the site assessment study and detailed yard design and production planning for the shipyard. L&T-Ramboll has conducted the feasibility study. Work on the project is expected to start in the next two to three months.
The project took shape on April 15, 2008, when L&T and Tidco signed the JV agreement and decided to build the shipyard with capacities to handle very large crude carriers, passenger vessels and ships for specialized applications.
