Suryachakra shelves Orissa power project
Suryachakra Power Corporation Ltd has decided not to pursue plans to set up a 1,200-mw (4x300 mw) coal-based power plant in Orissa. Non-agreement with the state government on some issues forced the company to take this step. However, the company is going ahead with its plans to set up power plants in Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Suryachakra Power has applied for environment clearance for a 1,200-mw (2x600 mw) coal-based power plant at Mandalam in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh. The project will spread over 1,200 acres and land acquisition is under way. The company is also awaiting coal linkage for the plant. Meanwhile, Hyderabad-based Ramky Group is conducting environment impact assessment study for Suryachakra's 270-mw thermal-based power project. The plant, entailing an investment of Rs 1,100 crore, is coming up at Sapoos village in Chhattisgarh. The company is identified land for the project.
