MACHILIPATNAM PORT PROJECT
Contractors to be finalised soon

PROJECTSTODAY: TENDERS invited for drainage and breakwater works at the proposed Machilipatnam Port project in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh are expected to be finalised sometime next month. The project is being executed by the consortium of Maytas Infrastructure Ltd (26 per cent), Nagarjuna Construction Company Ltd (25 per cent), SREI Infrastructure Finance Ltd (38 per cent) and a private company (11 per cent) owned by the chairman of Satyam.

The project has been conceived over 3,000 acres of land at an estimated cost of Rs 1,600 crore. It will be implemented on BOT basis. Consulting Engineering Services, Delhi, has been appointed as project consultant. Financial closure and environmental clearance are likely to be in place by
December 2008.

The project is scheduled for completion within 24 months and is expected to begin operations by January 2009.
