The Gautam Budh Nagar district administration has commenced the compensation process for six villages for land acquired for the proposed Jewar International Airport in Uttar Pradesh.

Of the Rs 2,852 crore amount required for compensation for land, an amount to the tune of Rs 600 crore has been cleared for three villages -- Ranhera, Parohi and Banwariwas.

The approval for the remaining three villages -- Dayanatpur, Kishorpur and Rohi -- is expected soon.

The Allahabad High Court had dismissed the petitions by farmers seeking four times compensation for their land. The administration has identified the area as urban and is offering over twice the circle rate in Jewar. Since the case was in court, all work related to the proposed airport had been put on hold.

The administration had notified 1,239 ha across the villages for acquisition in Phase-I. The notified land is owned by 8,971 families, of these 3,627 families farming as well as residential land have been identified for acquisition.

An amount of around Rs 308 crore for Ranhera, Rs 276 crore for Parohi and about Rs 16 crore for Banwariwas has been cleared. For the remaining three villages, a compensation of Rs 427 crore for Kishorpur has been sent for approval.

The authorities are in the process of preparing compensation award for Dayanatpur and Rohi and the same will be sent for clearance to Meerut Commissioner.
