Brick Eagle has invested Rs 300 crore to acquire a stalled low-cost housing project, Tanaji Malusare City (TMC).
TMC, located in Karjat, was the first affordable housing project in the private sector and was awarded by the United Nations for sustainable practices in 2009.
An initiative of Mumbai-based Matheran Realty, TMC was delayed by five years due to a shareholder dispute and a court injunction.
According to Brick Eagle, the company’s first priority is to complete the construction as early as possible and deliver the units in 24 months.
Spread across 105 acre, the township will have 20,000 homes and hopes to deliver 500 homes by April. The township will have commercial developments along with schools and hospitals, among other facilities.
The project will now be developed by Sheltrex, an incubated developer of Brick Eagle Group.
So far, Brick Eagle has invested in 20 housing projects spanning 1,250 acre in Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Coimbatore, Mysore and Ahmedabad.
