The Central government has given approval to upgrade 12 state highways (SHs) and major district roads in Bihar to national highways (NHs).
A total of Rs 3,000 crore will be spent on upgrading the SHs. The Centre has already approved the detailed project report (DPR), and construction work is likely to begin by end of 2018.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has already given in-principle approval to upgrade 52 roads in Bihar to NHs of which 12 roads have been selected in Phase-I.
Work on a new four-lane bridge parallel to Mahatma Gandhi Setu over the river Ganga will also start by end of 2018. Besides, another bridge is proposed, parallel to Jayaprakash Setu between Digha and Sonepur as part of the proposed Patna ring road.
