The Delhi government has approved a Rs 220 crore drainage project as part of the city's new Drainage Master Plan to combat waterlogging in Kirari, one of the most flood-prone areas.
The plan includes the construction of a 4.5 km drain along the railway line from Mundka Halt station to Najafgarh, alongside a supplementary drain along the Delhi-Bhatinda railway line. The project aims to benefit over 70 unauthorised colonies and several localities, providing relief to lakhs of residents. The construction is set to be completed by 2027.
The project is expected to improve drainage conditions not only in Kirari but also in adjacent areas such as Nangloi Jaat, Bawana, and Mundka, enhancing urban infrastructure and mitigating monsoon-related flooding.
