On 27 January 2014, Isuzu Motors, the Japanese automotive company, laid the foundation stone for its greenfield manufacturing unit in the Sri City industrial park in Andhra Pradesh.
The project entails an investment of Rs 3,000 crore and will initially produce sports utility vehicles and pick-up trucks. The manufacturing plant will have an initial capacity to manufacture 50,000 units per year. This will be gradually ramped up to 1,20,000 units. The company expects to commission the plant by April 2016.
Isuzu Motors has already acquired 107 acre land for the unit which will have facilities like painting booth and oven, water tester, combination tester and spot welding machines.
To ensure environmental compliance, the company is considering developing sustainable and energy-efficiency practices including ZLD (Zero Liquid Discharge) facility and ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant) process.
Besides, the company is planning to expand dealers in India to 180 showrooms by 2018. By the next year, Isuzu plans to set up 60 outlets across the country.
