On 20 June 2013, Sonia Gandhi, Congress President, laid the foundation stone for Suratgarh Power Station in Sriganganagar district of Rajasthan.
The proposed project is being executed by Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (RVUNL). It envisages expansion of Unit-VII and Unit-VIII with an installed capacity of 1,320 MW (2x660 MW) with a total investment of Rs 7,920 crore.
Also, Sonia Gandhi will later lay foundation stone for Rs 2,938 crore water supply project at Jayal in Nagaur district
