GAIL and Paradip Port Trust, on 26 October 2013, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), to set up an offshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Paradip Port.
The project, estimated to cost Rs 3,108 crore, envisages setting up the project in phases, wherein in the first phase, a capacity of four million tpa with a storage capacity of 1,70,000 cubic mtr will come up by 2017. The second phase will have an additional capacity of four million tpa.
Of the total cost, GAIL will invest Rs 2,458 crore. Paradip Port Trust is likely to pump in Rs 650 crore in breakwater and dredging.
GAIL holds authorisation for laying Jagdishpur-Haldia and Surat-Paradip pipeline, and this project will act as a source of gas to feed these pipelines.
