GMR Infrastructure, in consortium with Oriental Structural Engineers (OSE), has commenced commercial operations of the balance 15 km of the six lane Hungund- Hospet section on NH-13 in the state of Karnataka.
After receipt of the requisite land clearances, the balance highway project started commercial operations. Further, a twin tunnel of 300 mtr has been constructed and a major interchange across the railway line has been created as part of the project.
The Hungund-Hospet highway is part of NH-13 connecting Sholapur in Maharashtra and Mangalore in Karnataka. It provides connectivity between the mineral rich and highly industrialised districts of Karnataka and the rest of India. It also links the local industry with Mangalore and Karwar ports for export.
Other facilities developed as part of the project include vehicular underpass, passenger underpass, bus shelters and truck lay-bys. The other user facilities include 24 hour ambulance and emergency support services.
Earlier, in November 2012, the project had achieved commercial operation of two toll plazas.
