The Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) has reportedly submitted a
$1.7 billion (approx Rs 8,150 crore) plan to the Directorate-General of
Hydrocarbons (DGH) for the development of KG-8 gas discovery in the western part
of KG basin offshore exploratory asset KG-OSN-2001/3 on 19 June 2009.
The proposed development plan envisages developing DD-West covering 24 sq km
which is estimated to have gas reserves of three trillion cubic ft. The plan
aims a production of 5.7-8.6 mmscmd of natural gas from 15 production wells
located on an offshore well head platform at the KG-8 discovery location. GSPC
is likely to start production by end-December 2011, subject to DGH approval.
Also, plans are afoot to create onshore processing facilities at Yanam in
Puducherry which is expected to process 22-25 mmscmd of gas.
