Jammu & Kashmir is planning to develop a gas-based power project as an alternative source of energy and to reduce dependence on hydel projects.
The state government intends to develop a 500 MW power plant for which it has demanded natural gas at concessional rates.
The state government has asked the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to allocate APM gas for the purpose and CGD networks at par with North Eastern States.
The state government also contended that the natural gas pipeline from Bhatinda in Punjab to Jammu & Kashmir as per authorisation granted by Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), being developed by GSPL India Gas Net, can be used for transportation purposes.
