Jaypee Group will make an initial investment of Rs 18,000 crore through its group company, Jaiprakash Associates, to set up a semiconductor fabrication unit in India.
The company is setting up this facility in partnership with International Business Machines Corporation and with Israel-based TowerJazzto.
However, the company has not yet decided on a specific location for setting up this unit. But it expects to set up the facility in either Uttar Pradesh or in Madhya Pradesh.
The company will hold a majority stake in this business.
The project will be funded through internal accruals and loans from banks.
In September 2013, the Centre had approved setting up of two semiconductor wafer fabrication units in India.
The second facility is being set up by a consortium led by Hindustan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation along with Europe’s ST Microelectronics and Malaysia’s Silterra.
