Karnataka Government has accorded its approval for JSW Steel's plans to
increase capacity at its Vijayanagar plant from 10 to 16 million tpa.
At present, the company is in the process to add a three million tpa blast
furnace to take the Vijayanagar capacity to 10 million tpa. At the moment, the
company is focusing only on 10 million tpa expansion which is slated to be
completed by March 2011.
The company has now received the water supply approval from the Almati dam
and is likely to set up a pipeline from the dam to the plant soon.
JSW Steel aims to attain 32 million tpa capacity by 2020, of which 10 million
tpa each is planned in Karnataka, West Bengal and Jharkhand. The balance two
million tpa will come from its Salem unit which is currently producing one
million tpa.
