The Lakhwad multi-purpose project at Dehradun district of Uttarakhand has received final forest clearance from the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF).
Approval has been given to transfer the lease of 768 ha forest land for Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam (UJVNL). The government of Uttarakhand has made all the necessary arrangements for construction of the project. The power project, estimated to cost Rs 3,966.51 crore, will have 300 MW capacity. It will generate 612.93 million unit electricity; 33,780 ha irrigation facility, and 78.83 million cu mtr drinking water.
The Lakhwad multi-purpose project will benefit Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.
In November 2013, the project received Stage-I forest clearance. After complying with the norms of the first stage, the state government placed a demand for the final clearance. It has also deposited funds for the catchment area treatment plan.
