The Maharashtra government has given in-principle approval to two railway projects worth Rs 1,089 crore in the state.
The two projects which have been accorded approval include doubling of Karjat-Panvel railway route and construction of an elevated corridor between Kalwa and Airoli.
Both the projects are part of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP-III) and are being implemented by Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC).
The work of doubling the Karjat-Panvel route will be implemented at a cost of Rs 1,437 crore, while the two km long elevated corridor, connecting Kalwa near Thane and Airoli in Navi Mumbai, will cost Rs 336 crore.
About 50 per cent of the project cost will be shared by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and CIDCO, while the balance expenses of the project will be borne by the Railways.
