The Union Government has reportedly dropped its plans to form a JV dredging
company with four public sector units after it was mooted three years ago citing
lack of dredging experience among the alliance partners.
The JV was likely to be formed between Shipping Corporation of India (SCI),
Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), MbPT and Cochin Shipyard to ease the
dredging requirements of state-owned ports.
However, SCI has not shelved its plan to enter the segment as the company is
now exploring fresh options to venture in dredging with private companies.
