Work on the Mumbai-Nagpur expressway project is expected to commence in 2018.
The 700 km expressway project worth Rs 46,000 crore has missed its deadline of October 2017 owing to land acquisition, and is now expected to begin work in January or February 2018.
Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is the nodal agency for the project.
So far, 1,000 ha of the 8,400 ha needed has been acquired for the expressway project. Another 1,600 ha will be required along the expressway to develop wayside amenities and infrastructure.
MSRDC is looking forward to completing the project by 2020 end. The state cabinet also approved setting up of a subsidiary company -- Nagpur-Mumbai Super Communication Expressway, which will function as a special purpose vehicle (SPV).
