Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL), started generating power at Kudankulam Nuclear Power plant (KNPP).
NPCIL synchronized Unit-1 with the power grid, initially generating 75 MW of power. The power generation will be increased gradually.
The project involves setting up of 2 x 1,000 MW nuclear power project at Kudankulam in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu. The project is estimated to cost Rs 17,270 crore.
The first unit synchronization was delayed due to condenser valve problems.
