Japanese technology firm NTT has acquired six acre land in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, to set up a data centre with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore.
The company will require supply of 70 MW electricity. The data centre is part of a 25 acre SEZ, which already houses some multinational companies, including IBM.
Yotta Park by the Hiranandani Group will consist of six interconnected data centre buildings offering 30,000 racks capacity and 200 MW power.
The authority expects both data centres to generate employment for 1,500 locals and is in talks with more companies to set up data centres in the region.
NTT had earlier announced that it will invest about USD two billion over the next four years to expand its data centre business in India.
NTT, which had earlier acquired local data centre firm Netmagic, currently operates 10 data centres across four major cities, with over 1.5 million sq ft and over 150 MW power generation. It plans to double the data centre capacity in the next two to three years.
The Uttar Pradesh government is also formulating a policy to attract data centre builders to Noida, seeking to draw investments away from preferred destinations such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai.
In a bid to be cost-competitive, the policy will include benefits such as uninterrupted power supply and permission to build without underground parking.
DLF has also leased 3,60,000 sq ft at the upcoming Noida IT Park to Singapore-based ST Telemedia Global Data Centres.
