The government of Maharashtra has sanctioned final approval for the metro rail project at Nagpur in Maharashtra.
The project, estimated to cost Rs 8,680 crore, is being developed by Nagpur Metro Transport Company. The rail system will be a 38.2 km project with two lines. It is expected to be commissioned in six years from the date of commencement.
The two lines include one line running from Automotive Chowk to Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Prajapati Nagar to Lokmanya Nagar.
The Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), a civic body responsible for developing new areas within Nagpur, appointed Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for a detailed project report (DPR), which has been received by the cabinet.
In the project, the central government will have 20 per cent stake, the state government will have 20 per cent share, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and NIT will hold five per cent each, and the remaining 50 per cent will be raised through loans and other sources.
