On 28 February, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth around Rs 17,300 crore in Tamil Nadu.
PM Modi launched India's first green hydrogen waterway vessel highlighting the development of the maritime sector in the state. This first hydrogen fuel ferry will soon operate in Ganga River, Kashi also. Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the outer harbour container terminal for VO Chidambaranar Port, an amount worth about Rs 7,000 crore will be invested in this project. This container terminal is a step towards transforming VOC Port into a transhipment hub for the East Coast.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for a new launch complex of ISRO at Kulasekarapattinam, which is worth about Rs 986 crore, and the facility is set to accommodate 24 launches per year. The new complex includes 35 facilities and features a mobile launch structure (MLS) with checkout computers to enhance space exploration capabilities.
PM Modi dedicated to the nation's rail projects, which include doubling of the Vanchi Maniyachchi- Nagercoil rail line. The Prime Minister dedicated four road projects in the state, developed at a total cost of about Rs 4,586 crore. The PM also dedicated tourist facilities in 75 lighthouses across 10 states and union territories expected to become tourist centres in the coming future.
