Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Mansukh Mandaviya held a review meeting with officers of the Department of Fertilizers on the progress of revival of five fertilisers plants through video conference.
These include plants of Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan (HURL) - Gorakhpur, Barauni and Sindri; Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals (RFCL) and Talcher Fertilizers (TFL).
RFCL has already achieved 99.53 percent physical progress and there has been some delay in completion of small component of physical work due to COVID-19. It is expected that urea production will commence by the end of September 2020.
The HURL’s Gorakhpur, Sindri, Barauni fertiliser plants have achieved 77 percent, 70 percent and 69 percent of physical progress. The Gorakhpur, Barauni and Sindri plants are expected to be completed before May 2021.
Also, currently pre-project activities are in progress in the Talcher Fertilizer Plants in Odisha.
The government of India had announced New Investment Policy (NIP) 2012 to facilitate fresh investment in the urea sector and make India self-sufficient in the urea sector.
Under NIP 2012, the Centre is reviving the five closed fertiliser plants of the Fertilizer Corporation of India (FCIL) and the Hindustan Fertilizer Corporation (HFCL).
