The riverfront development project between Sangamwadi and Bund Garden in Pune has seen a cost hike of Rs 73.97 crore, bringing the revised total to Rs 339 crore.
The increase in funds will be used to enhance public facilities, including widening footpaths and jogging tracks from six to 12 mtrs., and adding new ghats, decks, and a 77-mtrs.-wide ramp for riverbed access. Project Chief Dinkar Gojare explained that these upgrades were necessary to meet evolving riverfront standards and accommodate rising foot traffic.
The 3.7-km stretch, being executed by BG Shirke Company, is 85 percent complete and includes riverbank strengthening and beautification. The overall project, inspired by Gujarat’s Sabarmati riverfront, aims to transform the 44-km Mula-Mutha river stretch into a recreational zone. Phases 10 and 11, focusing on Bund Garden to Mundhwa, will improve traffic flow with a new 30-metre-wide road. The project was approved in 2018 at ?4,727 crore and is being carried out in 11 phases.
