SCM Garments, a subsidiary of The Chennai Silks Group, will establish a Rs 50 crore production unit in Mannargudi, Tiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the project was signed in Chennai, with Chief Minister M K Stalin and Industries Minister T R B Rajaa in attendance. The new facility, built on five acres of land provided by the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu, is expected to be completed by next year. The unit will generate employment for 2,500 people, primarily benefiting rural women in Tiruvarur district, with 2,200 direct and 300 indirect work roles.
The project supports the Tamil Nadu government's efforts to boost employment, attract foreign investment, and achieve a USD one trillion economy by 2030. Senior officials from the state government and SCM Garments attended the signing ceremony.
