The urea plant of Khubal Fertiliser Company, at Kumarghat, Unakoti, in North Tripura, is likely to be operational by 2017.
Khubal Fertiliser Company is a 50:50 JV between ONGC and Chambal Fertilisers & Chemicals. The project, with 1.3 million tpa capacity, is in the initial stage. It involves an investment of Rs 5,000 crore. The developer has also completed pre-feasibility study for the unit.
The company requires to obtain approval from the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF). Further, the required gas for the unit will be made available by ONGC.
For this purpose, ONGC has expedited its exploration drive to gather more gas for supply to different projects. These include Unit-II of the Palatana gas-based power project at Udaipur in Gomati district, which is to be operation within three months; 100 MW gas-based power project of NEEPCO at Monarchak in Sipahijala district, which will be operational by 2015.
