Carlyle-backed Varmora Granito has invested Rs 400 crore in setting up two manufacturing plants, completing its expansion at Morbi, Gujarat. The two plants, with a combined manufacturing capacity of 17 million sq. mtrs. (msm) per annum, will take the total capacity of Varmora to 58 msm.
In a first, one of the plants will use a new technology called Integrated Stone Technology (IST), sourced from Italy, introducing a technology which will help replicate the features of natural marble, and offers a stronger, stain-proof, and cheaper option. The IST technology has been sourced from Sacmi, with exclusive rights for the next two years. The second plant, with a capacity of 12 million sq. mtrs. will manufacture tiles and bathwares.
Exports comprise 20 per cent of the total sales of the company which operates 15 manufacturing plants in Morbi. This strategic growth will help meet demand of the export market while enhancing its service to domestic customers.
These plants have also created more than 600 new direct and indirect employment opportunities.
