The government of West Bengal has decided to fast track projects worth Rs 600 crore in gems, jewellery and food parks.
The state government has received 32 applications for the parks. Of the total, five companies were offered 5,000 sq ft of land each, in the James and Jewellery Park at Ankurhati, near Domzur, in Howrah district. If the state government allots land to these 32 applicants, the park comprising 1,25,000 sq ft will be occupied entirely.
Pursuant to this, the state government has proposed to set up another park of 1,25,000 sq ft area.
It has also received many applications, including one from the Sugar and Spice sector, for Phase-III of the Sankrail Food Park in Howrah district, in the state. Land has also been allotted to some of those companies. Pursuant to this, the state government has proposed to set up another park within a similar area.
Further, it will also set up a project soon under Rishi Bankim Industrial Park, at Naihati, in North 24-Parganas district to produce fodder for animals.
Besides, the state government has also allotted 60 acre to Kishore Biyani group, to set up a mega food park under Vidyasagar Industrial Park, at Kharagpur, at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore.
