Of the 1,000 MW of wind projects allotted by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) in October 2017, to be completed by May 2019, just 452 MW have been commissioned so far.

Winners of the auction were Singapore-based Sembcorp, AT Capital Group backed Orange Renewable, ReNew Power and Inox Wind, all of whom won capacities of around 200 to 250MW each at tariffs in the range of Rs 2.64-2.65 per unit. Adani Green Energy won 50 MW capacity of wind power project.

Orange Renewable has commissioned its 200 MW, while ReNew and Sembcorp have completed 126 MW each out of the 250 MW.

The commissioning has been delayed because the companies setting up their projects in Gujarat as the land allotment process has been slow.

Both Renew and Sembcorp are expected to fully commission their projects by September 2019.  Orange has commissioned its project in Tamil Nadu, while Adani Green Energy’s 50MW will come up by November 2019.

Moreover, SECI has not granted an extension for any project yet. This was for the Tranche-II of wind projects SECI commissioned.

Of the 1,050 MW allotted in the Tranche-I auction in February 2017, which was supposed to be completed by October 2018, 100 MW still remain incomplete. The winning tariff in this auction was Rs 3.46 per unit.

The projects to be completed are being set up by Inox and Adani with 50 MW each. The project by Adani is expected to be completed by October 2019. The project has been delayed because the transmission is yet to come.

SECI also held a Tranche-III auction of 2,000MW of wind projects in February 2018. Though the deadline is for November 2019, around 100 MW has been commissioned.
