Semindia Fab commenced work on its
prestigious Rs.13,500 crore semiconductor chips manufacturing unit 'Fab City' in
Hyderabad district of Andhra Pradesh.
The project will come up in two
phases. Phase-I of the project will have a $75 million (Rs.337.5 crore approx.)
test and assembly line with a capacity of 25 million chips per year. In Phase-II
the capacity will be doubled at an additional investment of around $3 billion.
The project has already received SEZ clearance. The company, which secured the
finance for phase I, is confident of completing the same by April 2008.
The Andhra Pradesh government had
signed MoU with SemIndia on 16 February 2006 for establishing Fab City. It will
produce 25 million chips annually and its is expected to handle 2.40 lakh wafers
every year with each wafer holding one hundred chips.
