Xiaomi is planning to ramp up the assembly of its television sets in India by bringing more component manufacturers to the country, in the same way it does for smartphones.
Around 85 percent of televisions the company sells in the country are already assembled locally, up from less than 20 percent at the end of 2018. Xiaomi assembles all its TVs, except the recently launched 65-inch model, in India.
However, a majority of components including the open cell TV panels are still imported because they aren’t made locally. Xiaomi locally assembles almost 99 percent of the smartphones it sells in India and the Chinese company has asked its component makers to invest in the country.
