Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) has achieved a significant milestone by successfully launching India’s first multi-span double lane modular bridge in record time.
The 280-foot-long steel bridge (2x140 ft.) was installed at KM 72.625 on the Phobrang–Marshimik-La Hot-Spring Road in Ladakh, a strategically vital and remote area. The project was completed in just 20 days, overcoming harsh conditions such as extreme cold, high altitude, and challenging logistics.
The bridge features a 7.5-mtrs.-wide carriageway supporting two-way traffic and complies with Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) specifications. It can handle 100 MT (wheeled) and 70 MT (tracked) loads under IRC 70R Load Class. Constructed with high-tensile Grade E-410 steel and galvanized for durability, the modular bridge is part of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Its design allows for rapid installation, typically within 30–45 days, making it suitable for tough terrains.
GRSE handed over the bridge to Project Himank of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on 10 July, 2025. GRSE has supplied over 5,900 modular bridges across India and internationally, bolstering both domestic infrastructure and global defence collaborations.
