The Union government has approved Rs 744.34 crore under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme to enhance civic infrastructure across four Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh.
The funds are allocated as follows: Ongole Municipal Corporation receives Rs 424.42 crore, Darsi Rs 130.61 crore, Podili Rs 126.17 crore, and Markapur Rs 63.14 crore. The focus areas include drinking water supply, drainage, sanitation, and internal road development. The Markapur water supply project will draw water from the Gottipadiya resource point. District Public Health Engineering SE Sanjay has inspected the sites and submitted a feasibility report.
The Union government has instructed that the funds be used exclusively for drinking water, drainage, seepage maintenance, and household tap connections. Ongole’s Rs 424.42 crore allotment is divided into two packages. The first, worth Rs 381.70 crore, covers 18 overhead tanks, three filtration plants, 535 km of pipelines, and 10-year maintenance. The second package, Rs 42.72 crore, includes one filtration plant, 35 km of pipelines, and maintenance services.
