Tamil Nadu Government has sanctioned funds to improve road infrastructure in the state.
The Government of Tamil Nadu has sanctioned Rs 98 crore for widening of the Chennai-Tiruvallur road. The project will be covered under the state's comprehensive road infrastructure development programme. The 4-laning project being developed by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), has been in the pipeline for nearly five years now.
The grant of Rs 98 crore funds is a part of the state government's initiative to invest Rs 2,950 to widen and strengthen the existing roads, construct bridges, provide adequate drainage system and build new bypass roads.
Of the total Rs 2,950, a sum of Rs 1,021.26 crore will be invested to widen 55 km of roads to two lanes and to strengthen 1,170 km of roads. Construction of 30 bridges and land acquisition for new projects will also be taken up. Besides, Rs 1,178.88 crore will be spent to improve the condition of major roads and other roads in Chennai, Trichy, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga,Tiruvannamalai, Tirunelveli, Kanchipuram, Ariyalur, Perambalur and Virudhunagar districts.
Meanwhile, the state government is also contemplating investing Rs 198 crore to widen the 4-lane road to a 6-lane road.
