Chambal Fertilisers & Chemicals is planning to raise its urea production capacity from existing 1.73 mln tpa to 3.46 mln tpa.
Chambal Fertilisers intends to set up two urea manufacturing plants of 1.3 mln tpa. The company is executing initial level studies for both projects. The projects are expected to raise the company’s capacity to 4.33 mln tpa. Both the projects will entail cumulative investment of Rs 10,000 crore.
Meanwhile, the company expects to set up another 1.3 mln tpa urea plant in Tripura with ONGC, which will run on gas from the latter’s onshore gas fields in the region. It has set up a four-member committee to conduct a feasibility study on the project. The committee will have two people, both from ONGC and Chambal, and will prepare a report to be presented to their respective boards, after which the investment decision will be taken.
Besides, Chambal Fertilisers has inked a pact with Japan based Toyo company for setting up the infrastructure at the Gadepan urea plant in Rajasthan. The Rs 32.50 crore project has a single super phosphate unit with a capacity of 2 lakh tpa. The project has commenced commercial operation in October 2012.
