The Ministry of Railways, Government of India, has signed an MoU with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), for high speed railway system on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route.
Under the MoU, JICA will undertake a detailed feasibility study for the project. Earlier, a pre-feasibility study was completed by RITES, while the Japanese study is expected to be a more detailed one exploring the possibility of a running train at a speed of 300 km per hour between the two cities.
The study will be jointly funded by India and Japan. The detailed feasibility study will be completed within 18 months from commencement.
The entire 533 km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor is estimated to cost Rs 63,000 crore.
