The Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) has invited bids for the development of a new marina near Princess Dock.
The successful bidder is expected to design the project. The site selected will offer an uninterrupted view of the sea. It will be 800 mtr x 50 mtr.
Along with this, the port trust is also planning to extend the harbour wall of Indira Docks towards Ferry Wharf near Princess Dock. This, along with the old boundary wall of Princess Dock, will form a sheltered bay where the yachts can be anchored. At present, they are anchored in the open.
Further, the port road leading to Ferry Wharf or Bhaucha Dhakka will be used to access the marina.
In addition to this, the port trust has proposed a five-year plan to increase the port's handling capacity from 60 million tpa to 80 million tpa. As part of this initiative, the port trust is planning a cement terminal, and edible oil and base oil terminals. It is also planning a closed coal terminal.
