The Mumbai-Delhi airport modernisation
and privatization project has taken a new turn with the government contemplating
revaluation of bids. The government has however averred that the selection
process would not be scrapped. Only contentious issues, surrounding the
selection process, would be addressed.
It may be mentioned that the Left
Parties had alleged that the technical selection procedure was biased in favour
of some bidders. Besides, there were some internal differences of opinion within
the empowered Group of Ministers (eGOM). This prompted the ministry to appoint a
committee headed by the Cabinet Secretary to evaluate the process. The
committee's report is likely in January 2006.
