Adani Ports and SEZ (APSEZ), is planning to commission a coal handling terminal at the Mormugao Port in Goa by December 2014.
The terminal with 4.61 million tpa capacity, being developed by Adani group firm, was delayed by about two years. Originally, it was planned to be commissioned by March 2012. The company has permission to operate the coal handling berth till May 2040. Earlier this month, APSEZ had raised Rs 1,000 crore by placing about 2.5 per cent shares to institutional investors for the project.
The project is part of the Mormugao port capex plan. It is estimated to cost Rs 400 crore and is coming up at the existing Berth No-7 on public private partnership (PPP) mode. It will have a new coal handling berth of about 300 mtr along with mechanised handling and back-up facilities. Its capacity can be expanded to 10 million tpa, depending upon future demand.
