Adani Power on 02 September, 2025 announced that it has secured approval from the Ministry of Coal to commence mining operations at the Dhirauli block in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh.
The mine, owned by subsidiary Mahan Energen, has a peak production capacity of 6.5 MTPA, with five MTPA from open-cast and the rest from underground operations. With a net geological reserve of 558 MT, the mine ensures decades of raw material security. “The commencement of mining at the Dhirauli block marks a pivotal milestone in Adani Power's journey towards self-sufficiency and sustainable growth,” said SB Khyalia, CEO. He added, “By integrating backwards into raw material sourcing, we are optimising costs while enabling competitively priced power.”
The company plans in-mine coal washing to limit emissions. This is the company’s first captive mine approved for operations, with open-cast peak rated capacity targeted for FY27 and underground mining nine years later. The mine will supply Adani’s 1,200 MW Mahan plant, undergoing a 3,200 MW expansion, reinforcing its 18,110 MW capacity portfolio.
