The tender process for privatisation of the Ahmedabad airport project is facing delay, due to a setback in obtaining clearances.
While the Madras High Court recently abandoned a stay on the privatisation process, Airport Authority of India (AAI) is now awaiting approval on a concessional agreement from the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation had put up six airports including the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) International Airport in Ahmedabad, along with five airports which include Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Jaipur and Guwahati for privatisation through a public private partnership (PPP) mode, and had invited RfQs from interested private parties in mid-January, 2014.
Once the RfQs and the concessional agreement are approved, the process will be followed by request for interest and request for proposals (RfPs) wherein the qualified players will be able to bid for the airports' privatisation.
