Apollo Tyres is looking to increase the capacity of its manufacturing unit located in  Chennai and also it is in the process of setting up a new R&D centre, which will be established in the same complex of the unit.

The manufacturing facility in Chennai manufactures radial tyres for truck and has a manufacturing capacity of 6,000 truck tyres and 16,000 passenger car tyres per day. 

The capacity expansion of the unit is likely to be done on medium term basis.However, the specific details on the capacity expansion was not disclosed by the company, but is likely to increase its capacity further by 50 per cent, depending on the demand in the market.

Apart from this, the new R&D centre to be set up at its Chennai plant, will take up activities related to commercial vehicles, across the World and the one located in Netherland will take care of global passenger car.
