Athena Demwe Power has received forest clearance for its Demwe lower hydroelectric power project from the Department of Environment and Forests of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
The forest clearance has been received for diversion of 1,415.92 ha (1,408.30 ha surface land + 7.62 ha underground land) of forestland, for construction of the project with 1,750 MW capacity near Brahmakundon Lohit river basin in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh. The project, estimated to cost Rs 10,000 crore, will be developed on BOOT basis.
Moreover, the compensatory afforestation over 2,818 ha of degraded forest, as approved land, shall be raised by the state forest department at the cost of the user agency. The user agency shall pay the additional NPV, if so determined, as per the final decision of the Supreme Court of lndia.
