Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) has decided to rent out its tower infrastructure across the country, for which the company is in the final stage of discussions with Reliance Jio Infocomm.
The company has 61,000 towers across the country. BSNL has offered Reliance Jio a bulk deal, whereby if the latter buys space in a certain number of BSNL's towers, the company will get a discounted rate.
Under the agreement that's being discussed, Reliance Jio can build towers wherever BSNL does not have its presence, for which BSNL will pay a monthly fee. This way BSNL can expand its network and also use the towers built by Reliance Jio.
Besides, BSNL has broadband spectrum in 16 circles, where it had earlier tried to implement WiMax-based services. But now the company is looking forward to deploying LTE technology for 4G services.
