Balkrishna Industries has commissioned the Phase I of its tyre plant at Bhuj in Gujarat.
The Phase I of the plant has a capacity of 25,000 tonne. The plant also has a rubber mixing plant besides a captive 20MW power plant.
The Bhuj plant is a part of the company's expansion programme that is to be completed in phased manner by 2015. The expansion plan includes two steps - de-bottlenecking the existing facilities, which will give it an additional capacity of 12,000 tpa, and implementing a Rs 1,800-crore greenfield project at Bhuj. On completion, the Bhuj plant's capacity will be 2,70,000 tonne. Around 60 per cent of the total capacity at Bhuj will cater to manufacturing radial tyres.
