The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has proposed the construction of a new flyover from Nagawara to connect with the national highway leading to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).
The decision comes after a decade-long delay in building an additional ramp at the Hebbal Flyover junction and aims to alleviate worsening congestion in the area. The BDA board has approved the preparation of a detailed project report (DPR) for the new flyover. The project is expected to address the traffic pile-up caused by vehicles from Nagawara heading toward Tumakuru Road, KIA, and Mehkri Circle using the same road below the existing flyover.
The authority is also exploring the reuse of 11 massive pillars erected in 2019 for a ramp project that was halted after objections from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL). The BDA had already spent Rs 25 crore on the pillar construction within the tree park at the junction. The new flyover is expected to streamline traffic flow and reduce travel time toward KIA and other key areas.
