The Railway Ministry has declared that the Bogibeel rail-cum-road bridge is expected to be completed in March 2017.
The third girder of the bridge was installed a few days back and is likely to be completed by March 2017. It is estimated to cost Rs 4,996 crore. The bridge over the Brahmaputra was sanctioned in 1997-98 at a cost of Rs 3,041 crore, which had been incurred upto March 2014. For the year 2014-15, an outlay of Rs 600 crore has been provided. This year, three more lines into the north-east will be completed.
With the start of the longest-ever gauge conversion project between Lumding and Silchar, Southern Assam will be incorporated under the broad gauge network. The project measures around 210 km.
As per the Silchar gauge conversion project, the most critical tunnel No. 7, having a length of 1,687 mtr, was completed in August.
