Borg Energy, a subsidiary of Texas based BORG Inc, has commissioned its off-grid wind-solar hybrid alternative power project for lighting the Vellore Fort in Vellore city of Tamil Nadu.
The company has set up the 20 kW unit as part of a corporate social responsibility (CSR) venture of Power Grid Corporation of India. The scheme was implemented by the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) with the consent of the Archeological Survey of India (ASI).
The off-grid project has 10 kW installed solar photovoltaic capacity to generate solar power during day time and 10 kW wind power from small wind mills, each having a capacity of 200 watt. A battery bank with 120 batteries of 300 AH capacity each, is installed to store the energy generated and it will provide back-up for upto five days. The system will initially be operated and maintained by BORG for one year.
The electricity generated will be used to illuminate 20 LED lighting systems.
