The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has achieved a significant milestone with the completion of a bridge over the Vishwamitri River in Vadodara district, Gujarat.
This 80-mtrs. bridge marks the 17th of 21 planned river bridges completed in Gujarat along the high-speed rail corridor. Located adjacent to the Western Railway's Vadodara-Surat main line, the bridge features three circular piers—two on riverbanks and one within the river stream. Built using the span-by-span (SBS) method, it consists of two 40-mtrs. spans. Pier heights range between 26 and 29.5 mtrs., each supported by 12 piles of 1.8-mtrs. diameter extending up to 53 mtrs. in depth.
This bridge plays a crucial role in Vadodara’s dense urban landscape, requiring tight coordination with the Vadodara Municipal Corporation and other authorities. Vishwamitri River is intersected nine times by the Bullet Train alignment in and around Vadodara; so far, four crossings including the main bridge have been completed.Another completed bridge in the district is on the Dhadhar River (120 mtrs).
Overall, 25 river bridges are planned—21 in Gujarat and 4 in Maharashtra, with completion accelerating across the corridor.
